Stuck in headphone mode after connecting bluetooth headphones

My iPhone 6s is stuck in headphone mode after I connected to JBL Everest 100 bluetooth headphones. It won't play the internal speaker

I've done the obvious:

-turned off bluetooth

-hard reset

-reset settings

-restored as new phone

-connected to another bluetooth device

Before I take it to a service provider, are there any suggestions? I've only found a couple other scattered posts suggesting that connecting to a bluetooth audio device could cause this problem.

Thank you

iPhone 6s, iOS 9.3.5

This is a well known issue.

I experienced it with new iPhone6s purchased in June. GeniusBar weren't in "genius mode" and intimated that I must've dropped it. I exchanged with Verizon and got a refurb replacement which itself was broken in some other way so I had to immediately return it. Got my third iPhone in 3 months yesterday and went through third install. Things went well for a day, then I used my bluetooth headphones and the problem arose again.

I'm exceedingly frustrated and am seriously contemplating returning for a Samsung. Seems superior in many ways although I wanted to avoid the hassle of switching platforms. The hassle i'm experiencing now is making this a near inevitability.
